Returning to Earth this weekend is the sneaker that propelled Michael Jordan and his Looney Tunes teammates to their monumental victory over the fearsome Monstars in what some have dubbed "The most important basketball game in the history of the universe!" I'm talking of course about the Air Jordan 11 Retro "Space Jam", the shoes made famous in the film Space Jam, which Jordan Brand is re-releasing in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the film.
On Saturday, December 10th, this iconic Air Jordan release returns to stores with some all new features that were only found on Michael Jordan's OG PE pair that he wore in the 1995 playoffs. Those features include a higher cut of patent leather that wraps around the ballistic mesh upper, a Concord Jumpman embroidered on the tumbled leather heel panel and Nike Air branding on the insole. The most substantial change is the "23" on the heel replaced by "45", which was the number MJ wore with the Birmingham Barons as well the the number he wore with the Bulls when he first came out of retirement. An icy blue outsole, which was also part of MJ's original PE's, replaces the translucent outsole found on past editions.
The Air Jordan 11 "Space Jam" is also the centerpiece of a massive "Space Jam Collection" that features five "Space Jam" themed silhouettes (including the Air Jordan 9 Retro "Space Jam" that came out last Saturday and were also seen the movie) as well several assorted pieces of branded apparel. Check out this photo shoot featuring Bleacher Report's Lance Fresh and hoop star Court Gabson for a closer look at the "Space Jam" 11's and some "Space Jam" threads.
